On February 14, 2011, the Obama Administration outlined its proposed budget for the 2012 fiscal year for the USEPA. The total proposed budget for the USEPA is $8,973,000,000.00 (that’s “billion”). This budget proposal represents about a thirteen (13) percent decrease from the 2010 budget.
Enforcement, however, will not face a budgetary decrease. The proposed budget has a $27,500,000.00 increase for enforcement and compliance. This increase will, according to the USEPA, allow the USEPA to increase efficiencies and streamline enforcement by using the latest e-reporting and monitoring tools. The USEPA will also supposedly increase oversight and inspections at so-called “high risk” chemical and oil facilities.
